Having now received my new bumper end caps, I was informed by a fellow member here that to ensure my new coach bolts were not too long, as if they were they would strike the bumper iron, and prevent fitting the bumper correctly.

On measuring my coach bolts, they were indeed too long @25mm long, (300mm counting the 5mm that recesses in the plastic end cap. The original coach bolts were rusted through, and had to be angle grinded off, so couldn't measure.

So I have cut the coach bolts down, and now they measure 11mm, plus 5mm which will go in the plastic end cap (see below photo)



Will 11mm be ok, or do I need to cut some more off?

Any chance on getting a measurement Paul? The weather looks ok today so plan on final sand down, masking off, then spraying the front end and refitting bumper.

I am pretty sure that the shortest is 15mm but you can cut them down to size.

Okey dokie, Im at our summer house now, and finished painting, just refitting grills, then onto the bumper Fingers crossed.

Might be to late for you now but I use M8x20 Button flange head stainless bolts like these. Easier to remove rather than relying on the plastic to hold the bolt from turning.

Thanks, all done now mate, turned out that 11mm is the perfect length, so hopefull this will help others wondering the same question.

And a more elegant solution.

I see that the above end caps fit very well too, unlike my new ones. They are aftermarket ones, which I do not recommend. Wish I got VW ones now.

They are actually JK end caps and bumpers.

Well they are a better fit than the ones I got off eGay, unless my bumper isnt quite straight, but it looks ok.

I was under the impression VW no longer sell them new
