The journey begins!!
After a lot of thinking I’ve decided to convert the Westy to a Syncro for two main reasons
1. Don’t want the expense of running another van
2. No good having it sat on the drive whilst off camping in the westy and fancy exploring off road.

I’m planning on giving myself a couple of years to do the full conversion and in stages.

It all started yesterday with the collection of the first lot of parts (sub-frame, most of the front suspension, prop-shaft, gear-stick & rods (are they different from a 5 speed) and the fuel filler

I’m guessing the 1st stage is to fit a fuel tank and once this is done I can then start on the sub-frame and front end?? and run it as a 2WD for a while until I source the remaining parts or donor van. The parts were stripped from a pick-up so the fuel filler parts are round, so my first question is. Could I fit the round filler to the rear quarter where the square one normally goes?? (personally I think the round one looks neater than the square one)

Q2 Is there a difference between a diesel and petrol tank?

I don't really know a lot about this, but wouldn't it be easier just to buy a Syncro?

Q2 is yes, diesel has a reccess in it for the diesel starter. With the rest of it, good luck! couple of westy syncro's on mobile.de at the moment

Gear linkage rods are different to 2wd.
IIRC fuel tank will not fit either as pick up ones are diffetrent to caravelle body type.
Engine hanging bars must be syncro specific too.

i can bring you over a complete donor vehicle if you like, that way you wouldnt have to source any parts and you would have a complete syncro for comparison
