Starting and Stopping issue

Hi all,

I'm looking for a little advice relating to a recent issue whereby my AAZ powered Bluestar wouldn't start, it would turn over until the battery died but never fire, there appeared to be fuel getting through when the AA guy checked so I got the van recovered home. The next day it started first time and the continued to be ok for a few more days, It then refused to fire again one day. A mechanic friend recommended that I replace the fuel Stop Solenoid, the AA guy also suggested this was probably the cause.

I have since replaced the stop solenoid and it has been ok starting for the last few times but today when I had been out in it and turned the ignition off the engine continued to run!

Is this possibly an ignition switch issue or a faulty replacement solenoid ( it was replaced with a Bosch one from VW dealer)?

Any ideas or experience of fixing this type of problem would be greatly appreciated as we don't feel we can go anywhere in it while this seems to be an issue.

:(

When it won't turn off, is there power at the solenoid or not? simple check.

I will have to check that when it is doing not stopping, typically it's not done it the last couple of times although it has almost hinted at it by not immediately switching off but after a second or 2.

I have replaced the ignition switch as I had a new one and they're fairly easy to do. It has however hinted at the issue since this has been replaced.

OK, it's back to not starting again, tried it yesterday and it started fine, and stopped when the ignition turned off, then started and stopped ok again, then wouldn't start when I decided to give it a road test.

Having replaced the ignition switch and the stop solenoid what else can I look at here? there is something else linked by a wire from the stop solenoid does anyone know what that does?

I've also checked that there is power going to the stop solenoid when the ignition is switched on.

It looks like I'm running out of ideas now so could end up in a garage but I'm convinced it will be something simple could it be an earth issue somewhere? would that cause it to not start and not stop sometimes?

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have removed the new solenoid and bench tested it directly off the battery and found that it appears to be dead, I then tested the old one again which did respond and work most of the time. It seems the new one is faulty and not working at all now so it's going back to VW for a swop out, hopefully that one will work properly.

I replaced the stop solenoid with a new one from VW and it seemed to sort the issue, drove the van quite a few times with no issues but now it's turning over but not firing again.

Is it possible that this is a faulty earth on the engine as I assume it earth's itself through the engine?

Thanks for any advice.
