Bosch fuel pump leaking

After a bit of advice please, I've got a 1990 1.7 non turbo diesel in my camper, just lately getting strong smell of fuel. After a quick look the throttle shaft out of the top of the pump is leaking, it only leaks when cold. I've had a look and it seems that seal kits are readily available. How easy is it to change the shaft "O" ring and does the pump need to come off. Have been quoted £200+vat to get it done, this does seem very expensive to me. Hope someone can help..
