The Syncro is losing a small amount of oil from around the oil filler neck. Is this part common to the normal T25 and the Syncro?
Any ideas where i can get another from?

It would help if you mentioned engine type.........
My 2.1 2 wheeldrive started loosing oil from the base of the oil filler tube (metal pipe) the pipe was badly corroded (fairly normal). My local VW chap sourced and fitted the replacement.
The bad news was that the main problem was crankcase preasurisation due to a shattered piston.

The two-piece black plastic part is ' swaged' (dunno proper term) onto a thinnish curved steel tube, which ends in a flange. This flange is bolted to the block, with a gasket inbetween.
I'd expect to see genral oilyness in this area, caused by small spillage during previous fillings.
Do you think there signs of oil *loss*.

VW:
Oil filler pipe 025 115 302A £11.32 plus VAT
Gasket 025 115 315 £1.18 plus VAT
BTW, access to the inner bolt is rubbish, when I did this job recently due to a rusted pipe, I ended up simply cutting it off with a grinder so I could get a spanner on the bolt.

I've got a 1915cc water boxer.
The engine is brand new. I believe the filler was damaged when it was removed probably due to some deterioration rather than hamfisted mechanics.
Any idea where i can get a replacement from?

Cheers Andy. Looks like a trip to my friendly local dealer then!

The filler tube is the same part for all Syncro waterboxers. It IS different to the 2WD one, as the engine in the Syncro sits lower. If your local dealer hasn't ordered Syncro parts before, make sure they use the ' Typ 2 Syncro' section on ETKA.

how did you get spanner on to fit replacement filler pipe?
I ask 'cos I have wrong gasket on mine so it slowly leaks, but filler pipe is ok so I don't want to muller it just to change the gasket
(I can get spanner on but can't turn it as various things are in the way)
