France on saturday... problems still.

Evening all.

Off to france on saturday and a few bits im stil not quite happy about.
Running a recon 1.9 DG with a 2e3 just back from recon. I have a slightly eratic idle and a tiny flat spot off idle. It also pops on overrun (has always done that however).
Im making a new carb gasket tomorrow at work as it isnt great. Hopefully if i can find a hose the same diameter il replace the brake servo hose.
Anyone got any bright ideas i can check? Ive decided to take a half day off work tomorrow, loose the pay and make sure im happy with van for hols so i have a bit of time to tinker!

To confuse things a little more i tried a colour tune on it in LH AFT cylinder. I couldnt adjust it to show a rich mixture. Could this be an indication of an almighty air leak or just adding to my confusion??

Thanks again all! :ok

Helo,

If you can get as far as me...

It should be run in.. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

And we can look at your mixture on the gas analyser..

Gunson colour tune is ok, but VW carb engines tend to run rich, ( hence poor fuel consumption), due to fixed venturi carb(s)

If it runs ok, no oil leaks, no overheating, then..

Tweak up the idle mixture to get rid of the drive through flatspot..

I take it you are not suffering from 009 dizzy syndrome...

And then go for it :!: :!:

Shady parking, hookup, and a warm welcome..

Cordialement,

:ok

We are off to France in around 2 weeks, and hope to fit in a visit to sarran1955 & Co, :ok

Flat spots and popping can certainly be an air leak on the induction side.(and the servo hose is a common cause, along with the carb base joint). Also check the exhaust is not blowing from any of the joints. Anyway, not a serious issue and unlikely to cause any major hassle on your trip to France :)

Make sure you replace that with SERVO hose, it is special reinforced VACUUM hose (not pressure hose) I got my new one off a Volvo in a breakers yard.
