Hi Everybody,
Does anyone know the top speed i should expect out of a bulk standard 1.9 DG Caravelle 1986 C reg ?

And do they suffer going up even the slightest of hills ???

If you're worried about top speed and hills you bought the wrong van mate

Basically anything over 70 and you're caning it and yes hills will slow it down.

Yeah I know I'm not worried about getting huge top speed or hills i'm concerned that the bus wasnt isnt running right you know what its like with a new purchase your concerned with every little thing until you get used to it....So 65mph - 70mph is fine.....

I had a 1.6 TD which sat at 75 - 80mph no issues and hills were no problems either...

Oh and the temp gauge isnt getting passed the white bit at the start....Is that right????? i am definately concerned about over heating.....

It is difficult to generalise. Our vans do not suffer gentle inclines too much (unless its air cooled), but if it is a long gentle climb, try and get some speed up (70mph)on the downward slope leading up to it, if there is one. That way you should get to the top in top gear most of the time but doing about 50 mph by the time you reach the top. If it is a steep incline then 3rd/2nd gears will be needed. I agree with Ian. On the flat 60mph seems about the ideal speed for my van's engine. It sounds just right. That gives a little bit more speed (but not much more) if you need it for overtaking the odd faster lorry. This summer my old bus did 80 mpg downhill on a motorway in France. I was still doing 60 when I got to the top of the next hill. That was a very rare experience and very noisy.

If you buy a T25 you really need to chill when driving. Happy motoring.

Got a steady 85 out of mine on the M1 the other month. Not too bad if your pockets are deep enough to afford the fuel. Oh, and a loud stereo too

Not something i'll be doing very often though.

Mine cruises happily at 100kmh, and tackles hills quite well too providing a good run up to it

I'm never in a big enough rush to ever top 65

hi pro my vans Aircooled and hills dont bother it whatsoever but it is slightly modified , when the vans were new an empty 1.9 van would do 97 mph on speedo not recomended with a few miles on the clock though , but these were brand new vans my old 2.0 camper was definately quicker than the 1.9 camper i have now when travelling at motorway speeds but the fuel consumption was definately worse
