Winter Campervan-ing`

We're picking up our first van (1989 1900cc T25) on Tuesday and want to make sure it's well used this winter
How do you keep warm in a van during the colder months?! And any good tips of places to camp during this time (in the SW)?

I have no propex or other such luxuries but am ok if there's electric hook-up available to run an oil filled radiator. Otherwise it's the hot water bottle and a big duvet, and a bottle of whiskey.

As above, we don't have any heating but use a very light but efficient heater when ehu is available. Two Jack Russells make brilliant hot water bottles!!

Electric fan heater (with hook-up). Keeps the van warm and toasty during the skiing season.
Where to go? Well, a ski resort, naturally, don't think there are many in the SW of the UK though...

We've got a ski-slope in Runcorn
We just get hook up and leccy heater, heavy duvet, hot water bottles and a lovely warm, cuddly staffie....although she usually nicks the blooming duvet!

Propex is the way forward. I bought mine on group buy so got it a bit cheaper than rrp but their well worth the money anyway.

Ive slept in my van, and various vans in as low as -15ish in North Wales. I use a really good sleeping bag, 3/4 season and a can of special brew usually gets me off pretty quickly
Were intending on using ours with the kids as much as possible this winter, so will be experimenting with heaters as well

In my last bus I had a proper heat with a stat and it worked very well. It was a bit noisy as it ran from gas and was very old. Will be getting one for current van "eventually"

Propex or Eberspacher are the realistic heating route, a very worthwhile investment if you plan to use the van all year
DO NOT use a portable gas heater in the van EVER.

I wouldn't be without my electric blanket, oil filled radiator, propex and underfloor heater....just to cover all eventualities

I've got a Truma blown air heater which works well right down to -20c outside and still comfy.
I read a lot of folk using oil filled heaters on ehu. Would be really interested to know what rating/size is used?

Ours is a 900w nice and small, but does the trick. I like the fact it can be left on all night, no noise/fumes to worry about.

Thanks! I'd never even considered one, but I suppose to save on gas and consume electricity you've already paid for on a site, it sounds a great idea. Just bought one on 'the bay', do I'll give it a bash.

I use a little 400 watt convector heater I got from B&Q for about £12.00. It's not that powerful but the heat builds up if you keep the doors closed for long enough.
I can run it all night too because it's 100% silent. it's only about the size of a box of cornflakes which is handy.
Frank.
