As a recent convert to T25's I have received conflicting advice about rear wheel bearings. Having looked on the site, in Haynes and VWheritage catalogue I have concluded the rear wheel bearings being ball races are not adjustable. Several people including an MOT engineer have advised differently. Please put this matter to rest. I have no problems with changing the bearings if this is what needs to done. please advise before I pull out what little hair I have left.

There will be loads of folk on here asking what the mot guy said first . No they are not adjustable unless the crown nut is loose

I think the confusion has arisen because there is a castle nut and split pin, so various people have assumed that the bearings are taper roller and therefore could be adjusted. This assumtion is clearly incorrect.

Fronts are taper roller bearings so adjustable but absolutely not loaded.
Rears are ball bearings and just torqued up very tight...any play you get is freeplay in the bearings themselves which is pre-set and unfortunately the hub if it's worn.
