AAZ over heating

Yesterday I changed he waterpump on mine & changed the coolant in my brothers DG.
His is fine yet mines overheating.
Temp gauge up to 3/4 normally sits on the led.
Water coming out of bleed screw, heater blowing hot, all engine hoses hot except return to waterpump.
Rad won't get hot, if I pull the return hose to the waterpump, water gushes out and the coolant tank goes down so cant be an air lock.
Surely it can only be the thermostat?
It's a brickwerks one and only 15 months old but I suppose that counts for nothing if your unlucky.
Have bled petrols and diesels loads of times without a problem.
Have ordered a new thermostat as I can't think what else it can be.
Any ideas?
Rob.

Check that the old water pump is the same as the new one?i've heard that on some belt set ups[serpentine] the pump turns anti clockwise!!....take the old pump to the shop and compare it to a new one??
Good luck.

Interesting you should say that - I have just picked up a 1Y to get ready and the first thing I did was check which way the pump runs. Yes, it runs anti-clockwise and so does the new spare that I had for my CS, but the CS one that is on there is clockwise!

I checked it as I was also aware that some had found differing direction of rotation - as I now have a pump for each way I won't have to worry too much. (provided that I get the pulleys lined up OK

It was a pain bleeding it, I had to raise the rear of the van up to get rid of the air inside, I never had to do that on my 1.6 or my brothers 1.9DG.
My needles is now at the top of the led where as it used to be dead on, but I think this may be due to no coolant, I want to make sure I've sorted the leak before I chuck £20 of coolant in it.

Tried bleeding mine on ramps tonight and still no joy. How much water did you let out of the rad before you got and air out? Can't seem to get any air at all out of mine and starting to question stat of water pump. Which water pump is the correct type?
