Identifying innards and parts of a cobbled DG

Evening all,

having had a few probs recently i decided i would try to find out whether my van an 83 Joker with DG that was originally a DF should use a green or grey stickered coil. have been reading that VW changed the coil to higher power at some poinmt in order to use triple electrode plugs?

Anyway, given my confusion i thought, why not check the engine number and distributor code....does anyone know how to locate what these codes mean in terms of date and natureof engine (i.e. recon vw unit or not and if so early or late) ...also seems to have wrong distributor.

So...Van is 1983 running a DG, originally a Df so has elec ignition, module and idle stabiliser which i have bypassed with the current Dg fitment.

DG engine code DG147380x (i think it has an x anyway)
Dissy code Z414, 025 905 205 C 0237 024 005 anyone know what this is from and what if any thing it might mean fitting iot to my engine? Finally before i get a new coil has anyone got a decent and correct Dg distributor for sale that works well and has a known good vacuum- please.

NO IDEA why this distibutor has this code but it does not seem to be a DG one even though its run sort of ok and appears to look like a DG dissy. :?: THAnks :?:

Looks like that code for a CT is 0237 023 005 but my one is an 0237 024 005 which is not listed it the Yard's archives- very odd n baffling. No wonder I've got a flat spot though! Wonder what it's from? Anyone.......

Im pretty certain that dizzy is off a 1.9 DG

025 905 205 C Is the vw number.
0237 024 005 is the Bosch number

Don't know about their new distributors expect they are far eastern. But have used them for reconditioning obsolete distributors where they have done a good job on them.
