Hi all,

I am now the proud owner of a 1982 t25 camper. The trouble is it makes a real knocking noise when driving along. Not when idling. Does any one have any suggestions of a recommended garage I. Could take the van to in the Salisbury area?

Many thanks

Josh

Where noise from. Does it only do it when in gear? What engine? Could a variety of things. If imported

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, it is a 1.9 petrol. Air cooled. 1982. Yes it seems to only do it when it is in gear.

It is not an import.

I got the van yesterday and drove it around fine, just the usual noises you would expect from something that age. The last 20 miles I drove in it today it started to knock. The performance was not affected, there was no smoke from the exhaust/engine.

I am not particularly mechanically minded myself so the likelihood is I won't be able to repair the knocking. Sme suggestions if what it could be would be great and a recommendation of a garage to take her to.

Many thanks

NOT 1915cc if Aircooled ... usual air-cooled engine options are 1.6CT or 2.0CU ... other Aircooled engines are available, no claims will be entertained and no salemen will call

in gear reads like CV joints, spigot bearing..
both easily repairable yourself...saving a packet

Hi Ian. Sorry yes it is the 2.0 litre for some reason I rounded it down.

Thank you very much for the replies I will get on to the advice tomorrow and see how we go.

Cheers

Josh

Sounds like a CV joint (driveshaft), goes "clonk-clonk-clonk" as you're driving along and is related to road speed rather than engine speed?

If so, easy to fix, can do it at the roadside with only a few tools.

Brilliant. It does sound like the drive shaft to me. I will get on the case. Thanks again everyone.
