Manual Cooling Fan Switch

Hi all

I know this provokes mixed views but I want to add a manual cooling fan switch for peace of mind.

I'm planning on piggy backing off the original thermo switch so leaving it in place, and was thinking of using a heated rear screen switch as my switch??

Would this switch be ok? I think the heated rear screen (which i don't have) has a 20A fuse as standard.

My van is an 84 so only has a single speed fan and by the time it cuts in it's a bit too hot for my liking.

If anyone has any better ideas of how to do this I would be happy to hear them.

Thanks in advance

A rad fan manual switch is pointless if your thermostat is not opening properly or you cooling system is bunged up with air.
It is also usless if the radiator is sludged up and inefficient.

Once those factors are working as VW intended, you may find the switch a waste of time :D

otherwise carry on :ok

we always fit a manual fan switch when fitting an uprated engine i usually use a hazard warning switch with the triangle emblem removed as it lights up when being used , , on my high powered van i have used a rear heater motor switch as i can vary the power to the fan due to driving conditions ie full blast in traffic jam to turn off when on motorway at high speed

Fit a new thermo switch....mine operated a tad high but with a new swtch in place, now operates earlier.
