Rear Bearing hub questions

Hi a few questions about rear bearing hubs.
1 are they handed left/ right or interchangeable?
2 how hard are the bearings to remove/install. Should I leave it to a pro with a press?
or can I gamer them out in with a large socket?
3 anyone got any and willing to post to east Sussex?
I have new bearing etc but want to do it as quickly as possible as bus is daily driver.
cheers

Bear in mind the condition of the brake backplate if like mine it fell apart and i had to renew the brake cylinder

Would agree on that. I never remove a rear hub without at least having a new wheel cylinder to hand. Just means an extra trip if you don't and most of these jobs tend to get done on a Sunday. Never used a press on bearings in 25 years though. You can drift them out gently. Just don't forget the circlip or bearing won't come out :D

Cheers, I done the backplates about a year ago but I'll have to get a brake cylinder, best do it properly.

Seriously it takes ten minutes to tap the old one out and pop a new one in. I use a large socket the size of the bearing to get them back in all you have to do is remember to re use the metal collar on the inside. I should have put that bit in the video really but I have found in the past (not that I am an expert but have been known to put a van through its paces enough to shagged the odd set of rear wheel bearings more than once) that if a bearing has been on its way out for a while it can turn in the housing and wear it slightly oval. If you then put a new bearing in it will then spin and not last very long. At any of the shows I am always on the look out for spare rear hubs as my spares run out and I know SyncroSpares did a good condition hub with a new bearing pressed in for £40 at one of the Vanfests I went to once. I had to buy one really as I had a bearing go on the way up and had to be taken on a flat bed and Volksmagic wanted £80 for a second hand hub with a used bearing of unknown condition in it

If you do have to replace the cylinder you will probably bugger the brake pipe so measure it and get one made up just incase
