bank holiday weekend inspiration

I hear the weather's going to be a bit pants but I wouldn't mind fitting in a bit of camping before daughter goes back to school and various weekend activities restart etc. I can't think where to go or what to do so am looking for suggestions that would appeal to a 10yr old. I don't want to go too far from Cheltenham, anywhere within a couple of hours drive ideally, so South Wales, Somerset, Dorset etc. Any ideas?

Longleat is a fantastic day out or Monkey World, it's a few years since we went but Monkey World had the best adventure playground I have ever seen, the rope climbs were built with adults in mind so you can enjoy it all with your kids and pretend (in your head) you are doing the SAS assault course too. Lots of great places to camp in the New Forest.

I will be at the 5 bells inn campsite in whitchurch canonicorum, dorset with my son from tomorrow night. Friday looks pretty rubbish, but saturday is light showers and sunshine and sunday - monday look ok down there.

The site is ace if you like cheap basic camping, £10/night all in, lots of space, nice and quiet, pub on hand, beach 3 miles away, fires allowed. its not well advertised so never that busy, landlady is very helpful, shower and toilet at the back of the pub. I think if your close to the pub they have hookup too, but you dont get the view!

i only tell people from 80-90 and close friends

Thanks guys. As it happens we went to Longleat a few weeks ago and stayed at a lovely campsite http://www.stowfordmanorfarm.co.uk/camping.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which I highly recommend if you've got kids and you don't mind not seeing them all day or the fact that you'll be by a river with rope swings and no health & safety notices or anything. That 5 Bells looks good though, I may well see you there!

Now there's a thought - I've not done a meet before but I've had a quick read through the thread and it looks like there are plenty of kids around my daughter's age going. Do I need to confirm or could I just turn up? I'm still not sure we'll be going anywhere.

yes one of my sons is 10 years old and there are others of a similar age.

I don't think you need to pre-book. I think there is a reservation for up to 30 vehicles.

This meet, last year, was our first meet. They all made us very welcome and we are looking forward to meeting up with them again. I am sure you will feel the same.
