Charging leisure battery with hook up

I have just replaced my leisure battery and had a flip down tv installed in my westfalia california.
When i was away the kids would watch tv and i noticed the leisure battery warning lights on the kitchen units would go from green to red after a couple of hours when on hookup.I was allways under the impression that the hookup would charge the leisure battery ?
It charges fine when the engine is running
any ideas please
John

That depends on your setup, some conversions have a built in battery charger that kicks in when on a hook up (Westy for instance)
but most don't and you would then have to fit one yourself. Not a big job and has been covered on here very recently. As you have a Westy it normally has one, has yours ? You need to familiarise yourself with
your setup

Look for the charger, then trace the output +ve wire back to the battery, you should fing a fuse in-line, maybe that has blown.
If we can help, of course we will

Lift the back seat (bed base). Look at the sliding door side. It's that big black box there.
There's been a few posts about these chargers John, this one might help you:

Oh dear! seems like someone have removed your BBB charger and used the space for a 'PROPEX' ? heater.....but then that begs the question of: has the original Ebberspacher heater also been removed (externally mounted under the sliding door step).
And
That clear sperpex box to the left of the heater...is that the controller for the propex? or is that a replacement for the BBB charger?

The clear box is a contoller for the Truma heater. It should have wires to the thermosat, control cable to the heater and 12v input.

Martin it is the contoller for the propex heater and yes the Ebberspacher heater has been removed.
I will get a smart charger at some point and just plug it in the plug socket when i am on hookup may be get someone to wire it in permanent if thats ok ?

Look for 'SMART' or 'Automatically controlled' on the charger to indicate that it turns off or goes to a trickle charge state when the battery is fully charged.
Also
Really needs to be at least a 6amp charger to be of any use in situe..preferably over 8amps.

I am sure the answer is yes, but are you venting down through the floor in that truma 1800 heater with a sealed floor flue and there is no way the gasses can get back in? i.e. the floor is sealed
