Water pump replacement

Hi!

I have bought a new water pump to replace the old noisy one which is on its last legs. After looking at the manual it looks like a reasonably straight forward job and I am going to do it myself.The water pump has a rubber "O" seal and two paper gasgets; the instructions in the 'pump box mention using a sealant

- what sealant is best for the job?

I assumed blue hylomar, but I have no previous experience of fitting a water pump.

Any other advice regard water pump replacement wwould be greatfully recieved.

If you're talking about a 1900 late DG engine ? .... I replaced ours (because a stud snapped off in it during replacing the steel water pipe) earlier in the year. There's a large 'O' ring between the face of the pump and the engine,a smaller 'O' ring between the outlet and the steel waterpipe and a gasket where the inlet comes from behind the crank pulley. I used Blue Hylomar to seal the gasket and to hold the 'O' rings in place during fitment, not everyone recommends 'gasket goo' but it does have it's uses. :wink:

While it's off I'd check the steel pipe too ... they ain't cheap,but neither's a replacement engine. Also remember to lubricate the fasteners when you re-assemble ... we don't want them shearing off now do we ? :whistle

It's a 1985 "DG" which has an earlier type water pump, but is very similar to the description you gave.

Blue hylomar it is then!

Thanks, I will be inspecting the steel pipe very carefully. The radiator fluid is very clean so I'm hoping there is very little corrosion....... :arrow: :ok
