can anyone tell me what the black and red wire that goes into the altanator is please

If it is a diesel and actually red/black it is for the rev counter and changes to a green wire further into the loom

Thanks for that it is a diesel think it was a 1.7 (im only going on the exhaust)but is now 1.9 did all diesels have a rev counter as mine has not?

but like the petrols the buzzer of doom needs a rpm reading so it works correctly!

I thought early diesels didn't have the buzzer of doom, mine doesn't according to Brickwerks vin look up utility

Mines has the blue wire attached to the W spade on the alternator - I have neither the buzzer of doom or a tachometer.
I might be wrong but I beleive that it was required still to monitor for high oil pressures at revs from the pressure sensor next to the oil filter - just no buzzer.

Well... I haven't a W terminal - it's a Valeo alternator though not a Bosch.
