Hello,

I have recently had some work done on my 86 watercooled T25 camper and i would now like to protect the underside of it. i was thinking of just using red oxide primer first then going over the top with waxoyl but after reading a few things there is a range of different products that i could use.

I have had some new sills welded on and done the jacking points and outrigers so need to protect these and will do everything else at the same time.

What products do people recomend?

Red Oxide, Chassis Black and then underseal is my plan.
All brushed on so nice and thick coats.

Whatever products you choose read the labels cos some are very nasty particularly if sprayed.

underseal when damaged lets the water behind it and causes even more rust better of with a wax product like isopans plastic padding wax protection loads better than waxoyl

Best stuff is Dinitrol, you can buy a kit containing all you need to do the whole vehicle.
Use ML3125 for all cavities, sills, doors, pillars etc
then 4941 underbody seal to do the whole underside.

Hot air gun and a chisel/scraper works well to remove old underseal.
Main thing is to remove anything which is loose, ideally you'd remove the lot but that would take a long, long time.
Treat any rust you find before covering over with your chosen product.

This question must be a close second to 'what oil should I use'

I spray a mixture of bacon fat and honey into all internal areas and then coat the vulnerable externals like wheel arches with Dynax. This way you will attract animals to shoot and eat when camping whilst keeping rust at bay. Otherwise check out practical classics magazine tests of different underbody waxes and potions!

Nah.. that's just faff

steam clean and waxoyl.. repeat every 5 years

rust stops rusting once the oxygen is removed, it's a chemical process not a personal attack
