Hi Everyone,
My new (to me!) much treasured van needs a garage, which is something I just don't have - so a van cover is what it will have to settle for. If my bicycle cover experience is anything to go by, the cheaper, thin covers are flimsy, and take very little to tear. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

I have a JK one and it is probably the best thing that place sells. I would Highly recommend it.

Ah, so JK do sell something worth buying after all

Wash it, give it a good coat of wax and then use it.....enjoy

i used to use Collinite 915 Marque D Elegance Wax instead of my cover this wax is my fave! lasts ages too

I don't like covers..
So I researched a way of keeping water, flies mud and road film off my paint and allowing it ti air dry naturally.

The car detailers had it sorted.

Wax, no not silicone or cheap halfords wash n wax.. proper canuba wax or even blended waxes.
Applied once..A hard wax will last for a year and give an all weather protection (washing only with a car shampoo rather than detergent).

Not cheap, but cheaper than a cover.
My high def wax has been on since March and the rain just beads up and rolls off, driying very quickly

On the choice of covers I would agree the JK is the one to buy. We park "Custard" up over the winter. We have had her 9 years and we are on the 2nd JK cover. The second one we purchased had a design change which seems to have made it more secure and the quality seems improved. Money well spent! it still looks as good as new and keeps the camper snug & dry.

Kev, are those waxes really hard work, like the old Simonize stuff our dads used to use ?

Not really, but it has to be applied with a damp sponge to a clean van, washed and dried with lint free cloth..allowed to dry then buffed off.
If you take your time and use a microfibre cloth it's ok

These days it's a work out .. but you only do it once a year.

I want a van cover for Ruby but she has a permenant high top.

Anyone any suggestions?

Funnily enough, I fully detailed my van today...The first time in, well, ages TBH

I used Harley Wax..100% carnuba!...Took longer than a waterless wax/shine that I used last time, but the results seem pretty good.

I suppose I wont really know until it rains and gets wet...Which knowing my luck will be tomorrow!

I got the wax from a guy on here, Bearwax Factory or something?...About £20 ish, with the applicator if remember right?

Anyway, bought it at a show earlier in the year and finally got around to putting it on today.

I'd say about an hour or so do do my tin-top van.

He did tell me "less was more" and I didn't need to go too mad with it.

Not a bad price really, as I'd say the tin will be good for loads of waxes...Probably up to 20 or so?

After applying it, I took the van outside, and hopefully, the 2 or 3 hours of bright sushine that it got, really baked it on!

Collinite 915 put on really thin and it shines amazing not hard work either! just do a panel at a time!

Oh! and def use Microfibre cloths!

There is a big difference between the various (similar) products prices. He doesn't sell the often recommended, (including above ^^^^) Collinite 915 (etc) though. Apparently he does do a discount for 80-90 Members
