hi everyone had a noise coming from my back wheel like the brake was binding a bit.so took the wheel and hub off and there was a bit of what looked like brake dust in the hub.but it wasnt binding as what i think is wrong is that i could pull the rear wheel hub back and forth about what seemed to be about half an inch in play.does this sound like the bearing is gone, thanks dave :ok

just to clarify...wheel and hub or wheel and brake drum?

the 46mm hub nut takes a lot of power to remove.

just took the van to my local garage and he had a quick look at it.he took the wheel and hub off and there was some movement on the wheel shaft as it could be moved back and forth.he dosent think its the cv joint/bearing but mentioned if it had a circlip fitted? so he wants me to bring the van in monday to have a look.just looked into my haynes manual and noticed there is a circlip in the shaft assembly could this be the problem for the movement back and forth?if so where would i get one as i wouldnt mind having ago at this myself as i have a 46mm socket and scaff bar to get the nut off as i have removed the rear wheel hub before to fit longer studs.is it worth a try myself?cheers dave :ok

Go to a different garage.

The circlip diagnosis would be 100% correct if you were driving a Jeep Cherokee or other vehicle with a solid rear axle.

Wheel bearing or hub nut, which is basically the same thing.
