morning everyone , just completed a 700 odd trip to newquay and around cornwall without my van missing a beat ! well nearly , on the way home i noticed the accelerator was sticking slightly , i had to lift it by putting my foot under the pedal and lifting it up slightly, it wasnt bad just a bit annoying as without doing this is was ticking over at about 1300 rpm , i put some oil on the linkages but its made no difference , do i need to replace the cable ? thanks jeff

It could be the throttle return spring in the engine bay.

Not sure if you can buy new.It didnt affect my tick over(Apart from returning it to normal) when i recently replaced the old one.Someone mentioned to me that one off an aircold will do the job.Cant remember who it was though. So cant verify for you.

Jeff. You can check whether the problem is return spring at engine, or stiff cable, by letting her tick over, then raise the revs by moving the cam from the engine end. If the revs stay high it will be the spring at fault. If the revs drop back to normal then it is suggesting that the problem lays in the cable itself.

I'm sure I have read on here somewhere that you can get corrosion or muck in the sheath above the tank area that can then cause the cable to go stiff.

And check the actual pedal linkage itself. Mine used to stick from time to time, so a quick shot of 3-in1 oil took care of that problem and I put some oil on each end of the cable too, for good measure.Nice and smooth operation now though I carry a spare throttle cable too, just in case :ok
