Trolley Jacks

I need to do a few 'getunder' jobs and been thinking of buying a trolley jack and axle stands. I can get a 2 ton jack with stands from Halfords for around £40 but this seems rather cheap. Does anyone know if these are up to the job or do I need to invest a little bit more cash and get something a bit more heavy duty?
Cheers
Phil

If you can afford it, get a decent one, you won't regret it.
When it comes to trolley jacks, bigger is most definitely better.
Get decent cast axle stands too, not weedy little pressed steel ones that will fold if they ever receive an off-centre load.

I've used an "el cheapo" trolley jack for years.
You may find that the reach is a bit short, I got round this by making a ply foot for the jack and a jacking pad.

The main issue with the cheap £25 jobbers isn't their SWL (safe working load) but their limited lifting height as a T25 jacking point is pretty high before you start trying to raise it off the floor.
For £15 - £20 more, avoid using bit of wood and by a high lift jack to start with.
Halfords have a very good high lift jack they regularly sell on a special for around £35.00...think it's 2.25 tonnes as well.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I asked cos I hadn't considered the lifting range.
Martin. Is this the one you mean?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... zone=PDPz1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This has a max lift of 52cm whereas most of the cheaper ones are only 35cm.Think I'll go for this one and buy the axle stands separately.
Thanks to everyone for advice.

Thats the one mate.....think I bought it very slightly cheaper on Trade but still a good price.
It's not a Professional jack but pretty decent quality all the same..you won't be disapointed.
However, I will point out the obvious (before others do) that this is fairly big to be carrying around and is more for serviceing as most would recommend a high lift bottle jack for a single wheel 'breakdown change' because of their smaller size.
