Rounded off brake pipe nut

Nuts. Despite the right tools, heat and lots of wd40 I've managed to round off the nut fixing the brake hose to the rear brake backplate. I've not considered the next step should that happen so I'm a bit miffed right now. Is there anything I could use to get it off or should I saw through the pipe and replace that? I assume that might be a massive job that I could still end up cocking up :(

Cold chisel might shock it loose, but you are unlikely to want to put it back on if rounded, so chop it, and get a good 6 sided socket on it. Wd40 isnt as good as plusgas for releasing stuck stuff. Have a made up pipe waiting to go on length is in th wiki.

:(

Better luck with the one at the other end of the pipe I hope, else you're really going to be swearing.

If you can get the other end off ok, then you can pull the whole lot out, cylinder, pipe and all and clamp it in a vice, though I think by that point I'd want to replace the lot anyway.

Thanks folks, didn't think there was much else I could do. The cylinder is off but the metal pipe is broken so I'll have to get that made up as advised, once I get the other end off. I'm letting that soak in wd40 a day or two before I touch it. I think it's the same 11mm with a 13mm nut the other side. Bloody glad it's only the one side needs doing.

WD-40 is not the best penetrating oil, by a long way. I've had great success with Bardhal "Cryo" or "Freeze" spray, has a super penetrating oil and also freezes the part to break the bond. Spray on, wait 5 mins, then try. Not cheap, around 16€ a can, but does the job.

Cheers, I've now bought something similar from liqui moly that I hope does the job.

Will undo most rounded off nuts as long as there is room to get it in there

Just to confirm for future readers, PlusGas is LOADS better than WD40 as a releasing agent :ok (mind you a lot of heat is good too  )
