Hey folks, any open ideas?? so all was driving fine and confidence in Stitch was returning in spades.. then it ground to a halt again. Looking through the whole site theres been many a member with this problem. You start fine, drive about 10 minutes then lose power, cut out. Will start fine but no drive power, leave it five minutes to cool then drives off fine?? I've changed the ignition coil, joined the ignition stablising plugs, checked wiring for damage, cleaned contacts, checked sparks and distributor errr.. What the ecks causing it?? I'm 1983 1.9 Watercooled LPG/Petrol (does it in both). Someone out there must have this one sussed!

Have you checked the fuel filter? What can happen is that the crap settles down and lets fuel through until it is stirred up again by fuel going through it.

Have you changed the ignition module (next to the ignition stabilising unit) ? They can go funny when warm, a 5 minute break is enough time to let it cool down.

I had exactly the same symptoms as you describe and I'm with Patrick on this one as far as probability goes.
Cr*p was getting into the fuel tank, lines and carb because I had a rotten fuel filler neck (which is a common problem). The fuel filter just got bunged up and, as patrick says, you end up with intermittent fuel starvation. Changing the filter is your first step; I would then look at your fuel filler neck and tank and then check out the carb for any dirt that may have got through.

When checking the fuel filter.Make sure its the one just after the tank.And get rid of the one in the engine bay.If it has one.

Ah. Just noted that it's LPG and the same problem is exhibited. Any LPG experts for ideas?

Run mainly on lpg, should have put that in guys, sorry! On 12hr nights at the mo, so will be at it again on sunday. Wire checks first... then a sulk in the beer garden.

Could a problem with the carburetor affect both fuel sources?

I notice from op's garage info that you've used Gasure before. Might be worth asking Steve to have another look at the carb?

Hehe.. Steve's seen the Carb! lets just say he's knows that in the distant past it's been ever so slightly tinkered with!! The vans ran great for the last year all seals and hoses seem tight. Real puzzler this one. Do i spend and change all i can in the hope it goes? Someone on here once wrote that you'll never increase the value of your van but you'll spend more than you bought it for! Is right larr...

I'd try the ignition amp 1st and check the earths generally in the engine bay

As mentioned it could be the ignition module, why not warm up the engine get a buddy to blow warm air over the module with hair dryer or something similar whilst waiting 5 min to cool engine. If it still doesnt start well then it should point to the module.
