I have a Westfalia with a gas tank slung underneath that can be filled supposedly by some gas suppliers. This is for the fridge and hobs, the engine is a diesel. I took it to the local depot but they say it is probably a continental fitting and their nozzles won't fit it. Is there some sort of standard adapter I need to buy that will fit my tank that they can then use? If this is not a standard conversion then I can supply more details like sizes and photos.

It's all a bit strange to me, I'm still learning the different names for the various fuels and what I can use and what I can't. No, make that I have to start learning.

You need the top one "Bayonet filler adaptor (long)"
Screws into the inside of your filler, then use standard filling nozzle at petrol stations with LPG pump.

you need one of these

screw it into your filler and then attach the petrol station autogas gun to it
make sure you get the long one like in the link below

Many thanks for the quick replies. Having now got down on my knees and looked at the tank I am a bit more puzzled so I have taken some photos.

Here is the tank, two shots:





I have numbered various parts. I assumed that the tank should be filled by unscrewing the cap on "5" but now see that "3" also looks like some sort of input but there is no cap on it. "2" I know is the on/off valve and "4" is supposed to be the gauge however the lot had been covered with some sort of underseal and I have only just managed to sort of clear the dial however I cannot read it.



Looks like the needle is pointing down and there is a red area between about 11 o'clock and 4 o'clock, presumably that means I have a bit left.

Can you explain the various bits and was I right that it is filled from "5"?

ok
1 = regulator, reduces the gas pressure so your appliances work
2 = on/off knob
3 = pressure relief valve, if cylinder over pressurizes it will release pressure from here
4 = gauge, 6 oclock on mine is half full
5 = filler

Two things:

1) I should have made it clearer, I won't need it yet as I won't be using the hob and fridge much just yet and if 6 o'clock means about half full then I have enough for a while.

2) Is the LPG that runs engines in cars and vans the same as the stuff I will be using in this tank for cooking and running the fridge?
