Pop top gas struts

Mine have gone. Autovan are quoting £250 to replace or about £200 to re-gas.
A) is this reasonable
B) how likely is the roof to collapse
We're off on hols this weekend so no time to get it done.
I can get the roof up and as it's solid sided once the flaps are in place it stays up but am worried the kid will get squashed if it randomly collapses!
TIA
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Mine did this too! But only 1 strut failed and leaked its contents onto roof, I could still get it up but it was a struggle.
I then bought some struts from here :-
http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gsc2429- ... roof-strut" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And I can recommend them too, they are a bit thinnner than the originals, I only changed the faulty one and all is well with the roof, it was fairly straight forward to swop - I used a ratchet strap to compress the new one a bit and fitted it on, then removed the strap and off to go.
I do not think the roof will collapse as long as the sides are secured so your cherubs should be ok.
Good luck, Mark.

Wow! That's brilliant! Thanks Mark, will get onto that when we get home.
Soooooo much cheaper than these guys are quoting!
I do think only one has gone but they recommend you replace 2 at a time which is cool.
Really appreciate your reply!
Sarah

I did Bren, they didn't touch the struts as they were working fine when I had the work done last march. In fact they were working fine when my mate borrowed the van but a month later on my next trip one was leaking.........
