Advice for blowing exhaust?

one of the exhaust bolts on my 1.9 dg (early exhaust) had been broken off, and the other one had just been tightened to compensate, but the exhaust was still blowing.
We tried drilling it out and had some success at tapping the fitting a new bolt with a nut, tightening both bolts as much as poss and adding some exhaust cement stuff for good measure.
However, it's started blowing again (about 3 weeks later). Should I just try and drill the old bolt out more so I can tighten my new one further? Is there any quick fix to a blowing exhaust.
Also, the exhaust system seems to be entirely supported by the connections to the manifold on the engine. Should there be any supporting straps, and would this help the blowing issue? I saw this on brickwerks and thought it might be useful:

thanks very much for your help :)

Those are just the strap portion of these http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=103" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You should have two of them holding your silencer box up just behind the rear valance. The front and rear sections of the exhaust should also have a bracket each fixing them to the engine block

You can see the front and rear exhaust support brackets on this picure; the silencer box supports and straps are not shown though

Can't help with what you can do to sort your bolt problem out though, sorry :(

My one has the early exhaust, does it still have the brackets? The silencer is different to the picture.
Thanks for your help

if you look in the wiki you can identify your exhaust system
I doubt very much you need these straps as you probably have the early system, which has little or no support.
you will not have the correct engine mount to fit these supports.
The early silencers were a lot lighter than the later ones pictured

thanks kev, mine is definitely the early one

would it still be good to support it to take strain off the broken bolt?
have you got any other advice for fixing it, or should I just try drilling out more of the old bolt ?
thanks very much

it was supported once but you won't find any exhaust with them on any more.
There was a lattice of rods from the flanges to various points on the engine...the exhaust silencer box wasn't supported.

Drilling out the bolt would be paramount for me.

you could fit silencer supports as long as you have the updated silencer box shroud, late engine mounting bracket with the holes for the support saddles
