Cigarette lighter socket - please don't laugh!

Hi there,

We recently bought a 1980 T25 and it doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket. After a lot of messing around with (crap) solar chargers, battery-run chargers etc for the sat nav, we've decided it's time for a cigarette lighter.

Now I KNOW this is a stupid question but can't seem to find an answer elsewhere (possibly because it's so obvious?!). I know you can get hold of the kits from various places, but where do people usually place the cigarette lighters? Is it a case of making a hole somewhere in the dash or can it just be placed in the glovebox as someone suggested on another thread?

Hope somebody can help!

Cheers,

Ju

I put mine next to the radio, you can also fit a surface mount multiple socket like my one behind the gearlever. If you fit one in the dash make sure there is plenty of clearance behind the location, they are quite deep.

I wouldn't use a glovebox - someone might use it for its intended purpose (lighting a cigarette) and there is a small piece of paper caught in it to catch fire as paperwork/junk does tend to get chucked in there. (I am a smoker and quite often small pieces of tobacco get caught on the end and catch fire)
