Well off to dover this afternoon for a spot of wild camping as we are on the 6am ferry tomorrow morning. As always the plan is, we have no plan and just fancy heading south to escape this monsoon. I noticed quite a few people are heading over the channel this summer and as we like a nice wild camping spot and an Aire we will post up some pictures and some GPS locations if we find anything worth while.
The Van passed its MOT yesterday

we have our fingers crossed Postie will deliver our replacement visa card today as I lost the other one earlier in the week, and I have just called Glynwoods as I lost my insurance documents and I am waiting for them to email me new ones
Fingers crossed.

Well, after a night at the wild camping spot we use next to Dover we looked at the print out from the ferry company and they had booked us on te 8pm ferry rather than the 6am one

Anyway fair play to DFDS changed it for free and we are now half way across the channel. A nice walk down Saint Margrette on cliff beach and a few pints was nice before we headed back up to the van and we lazed around in the sun looking at the clear view we had of France.
The first mechanical issue...

They did for the Viet Cong during the 10year police action in South East Asia, they equipped the winning side. Jed would have to hang a left at the Croatian border to get there.
How fast were you going when it blew out Jed? Can't wait for the videos mate, Rob

Hey Jed,
If you're heading anywhere near the South of France, Millau viaduct, can you keep an eye out for a nice sleepy spot insight of the bridge that would be well cool. ( not up a 4x4 track though )
We are heading that way in August so any other spots appreciated.
Enjoy your trip.
Mark.

Have fun Jed;
Just got back last night from our own Tour de France, 4443 trouble free kms chasing the sun that took us from Calais to Normandy, Rocamadour, Pyrynees, Costa brava, Pyrynees, Aquitaine, Cote d'Or, Auvergne, Paris, Somme and back to Calais. Back roads and Mountain passes following our noses. Sun came out in the second week so you should be fine now.
PS If you look around and get deep into the farm lands you can pick fuel up at around 1.37 euros. Highest was about 1.52!

Well we have had a good couple of days. Found a good Aire at Super Besse for 5euro and A good garage that charged me £8 to weld up my exhaust as it snapped again.... We have just entered Provonce (i think) via a mountain range and the little un threw up all over the van because of the hair pin bends. We pulled in at a campsite in a random place called Aubenas in the mountain valley and are swimming in the river as its just hit 48*c.
Oh and we gave the toll road a go and it cost a bloody fortune and is boring as hell so not bothering with that again.

French garages have always turned up trumps for me. If they can fix it there and then they do.
The Provence region is always a hot part of France, but that is tooooo hot! Thank heavens for running water. Trees/forests and rivers sum France up for me and sunshine of course. Jealous, but not for long. We will be over there on Sunday heading for the Auvergne Region. We are all just itching to go now. Continue to have a fun time.

Well got to The Med and it's bloody amazing. Camped next to the sea at a place called plage de l'escalet it's next to the sea but in vin yards too. Having a spot of trouble copying URL code from my Photobucket account on the iPhone bit I have put a few picrures on CampervanCulture.com Facebook page if any one wants to check them out.

In the ski station, by the lake?
If you go back past there, head slightly further round the mountain, to Chastreix Sancy. Much smaller station, but the restaurant is good and the view is something else entirely...
