Rear brake electrics

Hi guys been a while, hard winter, new stable, and a engine rebuild on my leyland tractor has kept me busy.
I have an issue with my 1983 1.6 caravelle rear brake lights. I have searched the forum but would appreciate someones help on this.
A week ago i lost the brake lights both L/R, so checked the obvious fuses and connectors plus of course the bulbs themselves, all were okay??
I played around with the wires near the fuse box under the dash and the right side started to work, but nothing from the left?? Then i noticed that when i pulled a fuse for the rear left, the front right side lights went out also and vice versa when pulling fuse for the right?? Is this right??
Anyhow i have one working brake light and would appreciate any help getting the other one back! Could it be the switch I do not know but will do the test on that next week when it comes back.
Regards
Tom

After you have made sure the earths under the dash have been cleened and connections are made good. Theres a box on the LHS forward side of the engine bay, in there there is a round 7 pin connector. this carries your rear light power, see if power is getting this far. If it is getting there then the loom to the rear clusters is damaged, or the cluster itself needs attention (unlikely, but could be rusty). There is also an earth in the engine bay LHS that gets missed under all the crud to check.

Brake light switch (mounted on the master cylinder and operated by hydraulic pressure) under the plastic speedo cowling binnacle.

Okay I have checked power to rear clusters and no problem there. An elecitrician says to run a new cable back, seeing as I have power both to the clusters and off the foot brake. I cleaned all earth points, light housing etc.. and replaced all connectors found on the rear loom as they seemed pretty old and battered!
Is it the case then it could be the wiring loom from the front to the back? and if so where to start the connection and where to finish? Any thoughts guys?????
I am just at the point of sending it for the pros to deal with it, got the MOT coming up LOL

Well I ended up sending her to the pro's who had to lay a new wire back to the lights, said the old wiring was shot with so many connections inbetween? People do the craziest things sometimes, a piece of cable here a piece there, don't they realise they end up losing resistance along the run with multiple connections. Some connections were not clasped properly just twisted together and taped over????
Anyhow all is well and good, passed its yearly and has now been sold on for someone else to enjoy.
