Help
Need some advice.coming home from my hols and suddenly the van starts making some horrible noises, manage to get her home and have a look.

Well basically the spark plug has been blown out of the cylinder head  on number two.

It looks like who ever had the van before me had problems and had to have a helicoil fitted. Only problem now is that the plug has come out with the coil attached and when I try to put it back in it just slops about. Turn her over and she blows out again.

How can I reslove this problem ?? is it an engine out job or is there any easy way to resolveit.

Please please help.

The engine is a two ltr Aircooled.

Cheers
Pilks

Pilks, You will have to have a ring round in your area to find an independant VW garage or engine re-manufacturer who can carry out the fix on your engine.
They may have to open up the plug hole a bit more then fit an insert which will inturn have the correct size of threaded hole for the plug.

Any workshop worth it's salt should be able to carry out this type of job with the engine in situ.

Thanks for the feed-back, you have restored some faith back into my life, I am close to just throwing it all in.

Anyone know any garages in the Cheltenahm/Glos area how could do this.

Oh one other question, I think it must have run on three pistons for about 50 miles so im nervous about moving it again, if I find a garage locally will it damage the engine if I try running it again.

Cheers folks

Had the same probs with my bay. I didnt trust that type of insert after that. I got hold of some Top hat inserts. much better. but you have to remove the Head and counter bore the plug thread. It lasted 9 years till I sold the van, with no problems.

Either take it to Audi Volks in Keynsham, or MAD workshop in Kingswood. I've dealt with MAD and Arthur who runs the workshop knows his stuff if it's a straight-down-the-line VW.

Diamond Hell recommends these guys...and he's very fussy

Thanks for all the advice.
Managed to get it sorted locally without the need for the head off.
