Camper Paint Job - How much

Now I have my camper insuranced, great thread. Need to get the mechancials sorted. Then onto a new paint job. Been quoted about £1500 for a paint job outside only, by a acquaintance who I trust. Body is pretty straight and has a couple of new small panels have been welded in.
Would be useful to hear other experiences of sprayers.
I'm based in North East London.

as with most things you get what you pay for, the 25 has a lot of metal on it, i had an Astra painted 10 yrs ago and i paid £1200 THEN for that i had a show room finish, if someone told me to paint my van would cost £1500 id be worried about the finish, im prob wrong, but im going on paint prices down here, where a Golf GTI mk5 boot spoiler costs £150 and they charge £300 a panel, thats for a car, but for that money you get fault free finish and a good warranty
Just my thoughts dude

Just had an estimate for £2500 - 3000 for a standard 2 pack colour. The usual seam rust is there but not excessive, otherwise the panel van is reasonably sound. The estimate included replacing some panels. £1500 sounds low.

To put your £1500 into perspective, we priced up the true 'cost' of doing a high top. EVERY thing down to used discs/empty rolls of tape/gloves/scotchbrite were put in a box and counted and new tins of primer/hardener/clearcoat etc were used instead of stock. Sounds a bit anorak but we just wanted to get a 'true' cost price.
that kills best part of £450 then
Then electric etc on top. Then include final colour sanding/mopping. Now look at the stuff before that - stripping windows/lights/seals , blocking, filler work, taking any seams out and sealing them/finishing to look factory etc etc
It is impossible to spray a van PROPERLY for £1500.

5k for a top quality job that will look good for a long time or 1500 for a blow over that may need re-doing every 4 years....all depends on what you can afford. My mates just had his bus done for about 3k and it looks the dogs how long it will last i dont know but at the moment it looks good.

5K buys a lot of paint and sanding blocks and time.
i would have thought 2k - 2.5 k would get you a very good job.
is there a lot of area to paint on a bus compared to your average family car?. ( especially as most campers dont have a roof to paint)
how long does it take to prep a modern vehicle with all of the fancy trim compared to a van ?
but then.....how much remedial work needs doing to a 25 year old van.....swings and roundabouts ?
the only way is to decide exactly what you want doing, to what std, and then find 3 reliable places that you can trust / that have good recommendations....and get fixed quotes.

my golf cost me obver 2k for a top paint job with top knotch paint and materials. I would say you would be looking at 4-5 for a van

why do you think that its more than double to paint a van then...

as i prepped alot of my golf paintwork myself and having now got a van and doing a little work on it. There is just so much more to do on it than a small golf. i would imagine in prept work its going to eat alot into the cost

i think thats always the case.
im sure that the "before" state greatly affects the time to fix and therefore the cost....

yeah definately
try and find a painter that wouldnt mind you coming in and prepping some of the tricky parts yourself
thats what i did with my golf then all of the doro shtus and roof gutters where no one wants to psend time as they take agesa nd are tricky then that brings costs down
