Strange blower fuse / wiper issue

Hi everyone,

In my early 1985 model, the blower doesn't work (hasn't done since I bought it a few months ago). So I do the first obvious thing and check the fuse. Seems it had gone. Also it was an 8amp fuse and not the recommended 16amp from the haynes manual.

Then I got to thinking. My washers don't work very well. I can hear the motor when I pull the stick but it only ever gets as far as a slight dribble which makes my van just look like it's crying

So how come I can hear the washer motor as it seems something is pushing the dribble of water out yet the fuse had gone?

I replaced the fuse with a 16amp and the blower still doesn't work but I'm confused about how the washer/wipers seemed somewhat functional despite the fuse that's responsible for them and the blower not being in tact? Replacing the fuse made no improvement to the wiper/washer function. On that note, am I right in thinking I have to remove the dash to get to the washer hoses in order to clear them out?

If i remember correctly, when i was faffing about with my wires/fuses/relays last year i reached under the left hs of the dash and straightened out the washer pipe so i got a good flow of water. Has the previous owner added an extra fuse just for the wipers?

Hi,

It's possible. There's 3 extra fuses that have been added. One's a 10amp blade type and there's two further fuse positions which take the continental fuses. One slot is empty and the other has a black (25amp?) fuse in it.

I've just had a check of the fuses again and noticed that the 16amp I put in earlier had indeed blown so I guess the motor is seized and I'll be taking the dash off. :/

Will take a look for the hose pipe next chance I get. Cheers.

I've just taken another look and it seems that the hose is kind of tight. At one point it seems like the hose has collapsed but if I pinch it to straighten it out, I still get no water through. I tried pulling the hose off of the T-connector but couldn't seem the get it at the odd angle I was attacking it from.
Dinner time now. Will try again later. :)
Thanks for the advice!
