it is supprising just how hot it needs to be before it kicks in!

how high is the temp gauge and is it lossing water when its hot , or you think its hot?

Hi Billy 739. ok,see your point maybe its just me thimking 3/4 up the gage is looking hot to me.no its not loosing any water but my concern is more that, if i cross the terminals and or was to fit a chicken switch on it to do the same thing it will still not turn on the fan.should it not activate the fan if i jam a wire bridge in the spade conection? would just be re asureing to know it runs when needed.
Cheers Dave.

no probs . yes if you bridge the terminals the fan should work!

i know on later vans there is no relay and its a direct feed for 1600 diesels , 1.7 and td had relays for full speed as they used a larger fan.

BUT it is possible the early ones also had a relay , if it has this will be above and behind slightly the fusebox bolted to the A pillar - there is a relay onthe early ones here and i cant remember what it does!

also check the earting crowns in the same place , dont just look at them tho as it can be deceiving, you need to remove each one seperatly and refit making sure its a nice clean tight fit.

The two relays on mine[1983] are the coolant level warning system and rad fan.

Hmm,ok.i'll have a good check on the earth situation tomorrow and see if that helps.took her for a good run today and the new rad has helped keep the temp at a better place 12oclock.yay.
