Hi Guys

Replaced the front brake pads on the van y day following the procedure in the haynes manual. After alot of banging with a hammer and got the fitted and tested them out. I pumped the pedal to get pressure and the brakes worked bu then I did not use them for another 100 meter and when I did the pressure seemed to have gone and I had to pump the pedal again. I have checked for leaks and there are none.

Do i need to bleed the brakes after replacing the pads?

You shouldn't have needed any banging with a hammer that's the worrying part. What did you need to bang?

The huge wedge needed to force the seized pistons away from the disc?

Maybe not.


If you're having to "pump the pedal to get pressure" then your brakes need bleeding.


Why did you change the pads in the first place?

What I mean is, it's quite rare for a T25 that isn't a daily driver to wear out it's pads, depends on the driver though.

Just to let you know the problem seems to be sorted now. Guess there was just a bedding in period.

Just to let you know I have to use the brake and large screwdriver to get the pads free as the were wedged with all the grim and pad dust etc. With regards to when did I change them the answer would be never. I have owned the van 6 years and who knows how long before that they were changed.

I have double checked everything and there are no leaks and the brakes seem to be more responsive now so I guess it make have just taken the pistons a while to get in the right place after pushing them back into the caliper to get the pad in.
