Hi

Looking for some advise please on starting problem.

T25 Petrol 2.1ltr Auto 1990

Here we recently changed a rocker box cover as old one rusted through causing an oil leak , topping up oil which I thought was causing oil light to glow and
come on , when just ticking over, getting to work and pulling in .

Fitted rocker box cover no leaks oil level ok but oil light still coming on when getting to my destination about 15 mile journey but only when ticking over ?
Oil level always when I check on level ground is upto top mark on dip stick , oil is Castrol GTX 10W 40

This Wednesday just gone pulled into get petrol about a mile from home oil light came on pulling up to pump , got my petrol went to start her , like something seizing noise , starter only just turning engine ( which i have had problems in past with but since new battery about 2 months ago been ok )
then nothing no starter at all .

lifted engine cover as first thoughts was a seize but could turn engine with alternator, waterpump belt , but still nothing on turning key ?

Called AA and loaded her up and got us home

So thinking new starter motor £180 inc deposit or could it be something else ?

Hi,

First off ..your oil is too thin..You need to run 15/40 really in these old engines..thats my opinion. I would then check that the terminals on the battery are clean and nice and tight. Also check your earth straps on the gearbox,Battery and the engine one if you have one. If this does not improve then its usually a worn pinion in the starter. If you change the starter then dont forget to change the oilite bush in the bell housing too.

First stop is the oil though I would change it to 15/40 and see what happens..then if it keeps flickering on idle change the sender..after that its usually a worn bottom end..

Glenn.

Just been looking at starter motors for my Automatic 2.1 t25 and the end that engages is different just a cog , were as the other stater motors
extend past the cog and this sits in the bush in housing ?
