We were going to the Black Forest but looking at guide books Bavaria looks more scenic.

If you were going which would you go to?

Any recommendations?

Black Forest or Bavaria.
Difficult, what do you want to do/see?

We did both last year and like both.

We preferred the Bavarian Forest simply because it is a bit more untamed. It is good on the German side for a few things like the tree top walk, there is a kind of on foot safari thing that you walk round, see wolfs, bears we really enjoyed (bring walking shoes as its quite long) there is a deer sanctuary that was OK and lots of great walks. There are three campsites on the German side and we stayed at two of them, the first one was right on the Czech/German boarder and was next to what looked like an abandoned hotel and the campsite showers and stuff were in the basement and reminded me of a kind of derelict mental institution with flickering lights, buzzing noises the lot. Sounds dodgy but it was actually awesome and best of all nobody was working there to collect payment :? The second site we stayed at was more of a conventional campsite and had a little bar in the reception and was one of those oldy worldy German affairs that are quite quirky, think it was about 12 euro a night to stay.

If you cross the boarder and go to the Czech side of the forest (and you should) its much more wild and we stayed at one of the best campsites we have used. It was right next to a fast flowing river right in the wilds and you could have open fires, it had a small cafe that sold cheap local food and very cheap beers. it cost about 8 euro per night I think and it really was amazing. Saying it was 8 Euro is deceiving really as they dont actually take Euros so change up local currency at the boarder or on the German side because there isnt much opportunity to change up money in the Forest.

Here is a video I made of the Bavarian Forest part of our tour of Europe last year to help you make your mind up,

And this video features The Black Forest, still very good,

Hope it helps,
