sump plug bolt stripped or worse?

looks like ive over cooked the sump plug bolt.....dripping away...not sure if its developed a hairline fracture on the away side of the bolt as in where it takes up too the sump...or if its just a stripped bolt....new sump? helicoil? threded insert?....crap design!! i nevr could find torque settings anybody have any ideas>>?? cheers all :cry: 86 1.6 td (jx)

clean up the sump to rule out the crack ...
if its not cracked then try helicoiling it
all else fails replace the sump

it could be worse it could be a wbx :cry:

and it says in the bentley ( so 1.6d ) 20 Nm/15 ft lbs and only un-screw it 3 turns

25Nm/18 ft ft lb on a wbx :wink:

any ideas of the cost of a new sump for 86 1.6 td???

I'd clean it up first ...
speak to one of the breaker about a s/h sump .. thats wot they are there for .. Mr Mcgill is near to you

I've never had trouble with this is 16 years of doing oil changes. Just use a small 13mm spanner and you won't overtighten. Also use new copper washer, this stop the leaks. I suppose no one did , justtightened the nut more and more.

What abot araladite, used to bodge mopeds with it , or isopon, usedthat on a moped sump ok :shock:

Are you sure its not just the bush in the ally sump come loose. Mine did, all off, clean and degrease, Loctite bearing fitted it back in, perfect.
