oil pressure 10psi

Hi, I've looked everywhere on here for some info regarding what the normal oil pressure in a 2.0 cu Aircooled engine should be. I've also checked wiki but no joy...I've been told that my bus has an oil pressure of 10 (I'm assuming that means 10 psi and not 10 bar) Does anyone know what the correct oil pressure should be please?

Many thanks.

You looked in the Bentley? (17.3)

Many thanks for that. I don't have the bentley book.
My engine has 10psi when cold then rises up to about 15psi when revving. I guess that's not to bad? :ok

Measured how?

If it's a dash gauge, there's no guarantee it's accurate.

15 psi is low, as above, min 29 psi at 2000 rpm.

I'd expect to see rather more on a cold engine, around 3 bar (~43 psi), oil pressure will be lower on a hot engine (hot oil is thinner, doesn't pump so well) so if that's a reading at cold, then it's very low.

A decent mechanic I found in Cornwall did a compression test and a oil pressure test. 120 on 2, 3 and 4 cylinders and 50 on 1 cylinder then 10psi when cold and 15psi when hotter.
I don't have any working dials in my camper except for the fuel level and speedometer.

He's taking the cylinder heads off tomorrow to see what is causing all the noises coming from the engine. I reckon sunken valve seats ...we shall see.
While I'm here is there any info on solid tappets? There's loads of stuff regarding hydraulic tappets but I can't find much on solid. My CU 2.0 has solid tappets. One quick question while I'm here...can I remove all the current tappets/pushrods and replace with hydraulic and correct length/width pushrods? Or is there more to it than that?

Cheers again

Presumably you don't want a copy then?

Hi Matt, will text you but a smiths or VDO is a good make, the ones ive looked at all come with a sender aswell, i was gonna fit mine then connect up the snap on gauge we have at work and compare the readings so i can see if its spot on or not, we can do the same on yours mate :ok

Sorry, no I don't need the Bently book... I'm selling the van as soon as I've fixed the misfire problems.

I've decided to walk away from the VW T25 scene :( whilst I still have some money left in the bank.
