sally's syncro westy

as some of you know sally had some money burning a whole in her pocket and decided that a camper was what she wanted, we negotiated that a panel van was what we wanted so we could convert it to our taste, then we found a westy on ebay, we bid on it expecting to be out big as usual and we won, we arranged to pick it up a few days later, the family that were selling were really genuine nice people and after an inspection we negotiated the price which we were all happy with and i drove the 3hours back home.
fist inpreshions were it ok the usual seam rust coming through and the lower panel behind the cooker was mullered, i assumed that the all the westy bits are complete (but i dont know all the in's and outs) but enough of it was there.
all the syncro bits are there with the exception of the small u/j protector that is located just in front of the nose cone.
the front bash plate is the drop down wheel carrier type which again i assume acts as a bash plate too.

i was utterly disappointed with the little jx, but this turned out to be not boosting at all as the boost pipe from the turbo had a whole in it! pete and sharon sent me and good used one so now all is good and working properly. although not the sort of power that i have in the doka it moves at a much better pase now.

i spent saturday striping the inside and then played with the grinder and welder.

the inner sill is in very good nick thanks to the factory wax oil. and fitted 2 new panles
Image
rear arch also fitted not a perfect fit but good enough of me for the time being.
Image
piicked up some plate for the repairs inside
Image

thats all for now, here are a couple of nice little bits i have been told are quite rare but this whole westy thing is new to me.
openable tail gate from the inside even if the tail gate is locked from the outside

factory fly screen above the cooker unit

Nice little money pit there Neil! It's already looking better.

Every Westy I have owned has had a flip open window above the cooker, yours looks like a slider? Is it double glazed?

I like the tailgate opener, I've not seen one of those before. Good for an emergency escape if there isn't a rear wheel carrier fitted.

All the none double glazed vans had sliders unless you fit cherry double glazed sliding parts

both of the windows are 3/4 sliders, i am very sure thats genuine westy. but the white sticker with the m codes is missing but i have not looked to hard for it as i have a bit busy with other stuff.

the history of the van is quite interesting it was bought in france in 86/7 and then exported by a professor to moroco where it stayed until 1995. we have all the inprot and export papers,

better unbolt that canopy as i have just got back from the mot and it passed, only adviserys were and oil and water leak, looks as if the rocker cover gaskit is passed it best and one of the clips on the main water hose is passed it best.

Apart from there not being a sliding door on the RHD passenger side, all Westies were cack-handers.
