Jack the van up ,if you have axle stands use them, and check for play in your wheel bearings.
Thats 3 answers you have

Might be of some use....
I had a clonk which was OK when braking.
Turned out the caliper had come loose, the IDIOT that done the job forgot to torque it up.

Sounds a bit like the CV joints Rob,the sound could be transmitted so it sounds like it's coming from the front, and maybe when you depress the clutch you take the load off them.

CV joints, innit. Try taking them off and swapping them side to side. If you smear half a sachet of CV grease into either end that should spin them out for another 20K or so.

Rob, put some old gloves on, and waggle those shafts up and down and fore-and aft and twist them too... the boots could be fine, and yet a CV joint badly worn.
Also just take a quick look at the big hub nuts.
If you lift off and re-apply power and it clonks more than a little, it is usually worn CVJs or drive flange bolts as you're being advised. But has been known to be at the hub end, so if nothing underneath, jack it up and waggle those wheels too.

ok folks had the drive shaft bolts tightened up still doin it they were slightly loose so i called steve shaw went down to his unit and he done what you said HARRYMANN and said my drive shaft on rear o/s is on its way out but cant confirm unless he takes it apart but trust his judgement with confidence he is sure he has 1 somewhere so he gonna hoak it out for me how sweet is that so all goin well that should be it sorted will let you all know.
thanks very much for your replys really appreciate all the help and advice as im a complete novice were mechanics are concerned
