disconnecting heat exchangers

What is the best way of disconnecting heat exchangers,and can it cause any problems .apart from losing heat in cab,getting some fumes in on drivers side

Im doing this today, and simply plan on cutting them off, then removing flexi piping, and blanking them off so no water gets into airbox etc.

Aircooled or watercooled...?
If Aircooled, just disconnect the flexible hose at the engine end. Remove it or tie iup up securely. Might want to plug the end up to keep the crap out (the hose, not the heat exchanger).
If watercooled, I have not the slightest idea
