wel.. my engine in the van wasnt running great.. and tonight.. it completely went....
the view down my street minutes after....
anyway... it had a 94' audi 80 1.9 TDI engine... and i was wondering if anyone knew what other engines would fit.... utilising the same gearbox??
possibly with a view to staying 1.9 or bigger.. and would even consider converting to petrol for the right kinda thing...
does anyone know?
thanks in advance..

what about the 1.9 AHU or 1Z or if your feeling keen, go for and upright engine, ive been reading about turbos taking in a little oil when fitted at 50 degrees in the 25, mine has a little blue ish smoke, hope when on the road it clears

They are both 90 bhp TDIs and both fitted to the mk3 Golf, from what ive seen the AHU is more tunable from stock, and both will fit your gearbox as long as its got a diesel bell housing
Im doing a 1z atm have a look at my build thread, may help with your choice

just out of curiousity is there a 2.5 alternative that would also fit this?
or one of the newer golf engines? say one of the 130/150bhp gt tdi engines??
also what upright engines are availabler..
may possibly consider a full swap if i need to, gearbox and all... and buy a full donor car..

You cant swap the gearbox from a car to the van.. its not the same..
Have a read of the 1st 2 threads on this forum.. it lists the modt common engine swaps..
Are you going to do it yourself? or have a capable pet mechanic that can do it? going TDi means a whole lot more other considerations.. and money...

ahu is ahu, no matter from what car it is taken out. They have been in most wv/audi/seat/skoda models. Use google or wikipedia, there are loads of info.

wow.. thats a big list...
am i right then in thinking.. that as it currently has a 1.9TDI installed, any engine from the above list "should" fit straight onto the existing gearbox?
it all pretty new to me is this.. and more so by most engines on ebay being advertises with no ancillaries etc.
i do have a mechanic avilable who will supervise... but want to do this myself as its something i feel i need to learn...

Yeah, should all just bolt on to the t3 box. If you want to fit upright, then you need a Kennedy 3600 adaptor plate and flywheel kit. $400 dollars I believe.

I ask as I'm trying to find an engine where I can use all the existing loom. I have found item number 140780595827 on eBay and wondering if this will fit my existing set up
Thanks

so...
got my old engine out....... its seen better days..
i've an empty engine bay i need to de-grease and mod slightly to make a tidier install... and the loom could definately do with a tidy up... get rid of the nasty blue take and get some new conduit to tidy things up...
picked up a new engine.. finally found out mine was a 1Z so called local breakers and picked me up a replacement today... also noticed from dropping out the old engine that there was no intercooler so picked one of those up too
so started work on the engines tonight.. taking the good bits off my old engine and transplanting them onto the new... rocker cover off my old one onto new one with new gasket... alternator bracket swapped from old to new.. a few of the pipes / hose connectors also swapped over...
tomorrow need to swap a few other bits and bobs and pick up a new sump gasket and swap the sump over..
some other bits ill need.. oil filter.. some silicone flexi hose for the intercooler then decide where i'll mount it and fabricate a bracket for it..
gonna be a long busy and interesting day
