Bumper didnt like our local Cornish granite at all,
being the big fiberglass type it cracked up!

What is the best option now?
I could repair it with fiberglass but I always knew it would come to this and may well do again..
Seemed to reduce the approach angle a fair bit.

Is it the same as a metal bumper, when its taken off, could I put a metal one straight on?
Should I really make something up thats a whole lot tougher than both?

I would be interested in this as well.

Last year somebody bashed my rear bumper and drove off

Kinda like the big bumper look on the van, but I think mine was a cheap eBay one, so looking for something decent to replace with.

No a metal one does not fit straight on. You need to remove the brackets on the crash beam

Depends, I retrefitted the big bumpers (carat).
My front bumper has no brackets on the crash beam just some side brackets.
The rear has different (deeper) bumper hangers so they would need to be replaced with ones suitable for steel bumpers.

The deep bumper hangers are quite sort after so you can flog them on.

I just looked on EKTA and the rear bumper has loads of little bits and pieces to hold it all on. I have a big bumper syncro towbar here with extra bits on it. I have a pic of 'crankenwagen's' ambulence and there appears to have a piece welded on each end of the crash beam. Cant find it on EKTA though

Mine does have extra brackets, but the crash beam looked big,
wondered if that was bigger than small bumper models.
I seem to remember someone cutting it all back and getting a better clearance.
Guess that is one advantage of raising the ride height.
I would rather keep that standard as I rather like the handling in corners at speed,
its high enough in the middle underneath, just needs clearance at the ends.

The rear bumper has some more brackets for the side pieces.

By the crash beam we are talking front and not rear?

Later big bumpers have internal ribs so that it sits on top of the crash member.

Yeah 'crash beam' as in the front beam. There is only one size crash beam and Russell in Syncronutz used to modify the front but it was nothing to do with bumpers just approach angles
