3-way fridge, gas usuage

Hi All
I'm going to attempt to run my fridge off propane while I'm camping (12v while I'm driving)...this may be an incredibly silly question, but is it safe to leave it running when you're away from the van?
I'm not keen to run it on gas at all, let alone while I'm not supervising it, but I would like to know what the best advice is anyway.
Thanks!

Safe as houses (not quite the thing to say after the gas blast, should be safer) - there is a failsafe that stops the gas coming out of the burner if the flame should go out. Check it before you go so that you know that it will light and there is no smell of a gas leak. Put your location in your profile and there may be a member nearby who can give it a quick check.

Thank you

I'm off to France on Friday so will have to put it to the test before then!

I wondered where you went - it has been nearly a month!

I didn't realise how to check up on my past posts *silly girl*
I'm not sure the gas
does work...I tried several times to get it lit, but despite having the gas turned on and the knob turned to full and clicking the ignition button like a demon, it didn't sound like it was firing up. I don't know how it should sound though, so maybe it IS working and I just don't know?
It doesn't seem to get too cold on the 12v either, despite me having the engine running for several hours on long journeys, with only short breaks. Haven't had chance to test it on the electric hook up yet, but might go out tomorrow if he's up to it after his French marathon. The oil ran a little low on the way home

Gas turned on, knob to full, push knob in and operate the igniter you should hear a little pop when the gas lights, keep holding the knob in for 30 seconds and then you can release it. To check if it is lit there is a small round window in the back corner of the inside of the fridge - if you assume a very odd position on the floor you should be able to see a blue flame. If the flame is yellow the fridge needs looking at as there isn't enough oxygen getting mixed in the gas so is burning incorrectly.

Awesome, thank you! I was just turning the gas knob to full, didn't realise I needed to hold it in...but then again, seeing as I need to do that on the stovetop, I probably should have realised

I've always been afeared of running my fridge on gas (butane) while I'm away from the van for the day, not just on account of the whole exploding thing but also in case it uses up all the gas. Anyone know how much gas they suck? I probably still won't run it unattended, I'm just curious.
