battery acid leak

hi everyone just removed my lesuire battery after i left my inverter on and it had been flattend.anyway when i went to put it back in after i charged it back up i noticed it was leaking from somewhere so i checked the van and there was white powdery type stuff on the floor.so as i was checking it out i found an old headrest adjuster pin and it was caked in the powder a couple of mm thick all over.will this start to rot the metal in the floor of my van and if so how do i get it off/clean it up,cheers dave :ok

Yes it will, you need to neutralise the acid with an alkaline such as ammonia or baking soda mixed with water and then paint the affected area. Check your battery charging voltage is not overcharging the battery.

^^^^^WHS - keep painting it on until all fizzing has ceased then you know that the acid has all been neutralized.
