TDI Engine Help

My T25 had an Audi 80 engine installed in it.
its not had a good run since last year as been doing a full restoration on it.
i've this last week fit a new exhaust system on it and all started up well with no problems.. until... i did a short journey well.. about a mile.. then the engine suddenly got louder under acceleration and it sounds more like a pikey transit now.
on tick over.. it sounds fine.. but once its given some gas.. there is a horrible clattery tractorish kinda noise that comes from it.
i've checked the new exhaust system.. no leaks or holes so know its not comming from there... just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what the problem might be.... and or what a solution could be??
many thanks..

nah.. checked all that... exhausat is all solid, manifold all nipped up tight. its a bit baffling as it only just started happening, and does sound awful..
its had a new air filter on also as the old one was mashed.. and got a little white smoke only a tiny ammount puff out on heave accelleration..
im just wondering if poss with the exhaust and airfilter change.. it might be running a little lean/rich and that may / may not be the cause of the excessive engine noise that appreared

could be any number of things, silly i know but have you made sure the airfilter has been put back together properly? if its not sat right it will make a din, post up a video of the noise that will help abit

right ok check all your inlet pipe work, starting at the air filter making sure you dont have a split pipe or a vac hose come off, check your intercooler aswell, if you know someone with an auto smoke tester you can fill the inlet with smoke and look for a leak, to me id check that first

could that be a possible cause?? the engine being srarved of air? if its escaping through a split?

yeah defo, my mk5 golf blow a boost pipe off and it sounded just like that, no smoke but rattley, gotta be worth looking at, where is your intercooler mounted?

just checked and the turbo inlet pipe hasnt got a great seal even with a circlip onto the air flow meter............ could that be the problem? i wouldnt have thought that much air could be escaping from it though??
i did replace thi pipe last week also so know its new.. but the new one has an airhole in it (im guessing to drain water that may get thru air filter) where as my old one didnt....

could be, the drain hole, is it after the airflow meter, and is it a hole? thats not right it shold be blocked or have a breather pipe going into it, it sounds like that could be the problem, the afm sees how much air is going in but because the hole is there it means more air is getting in and making it run lean and rattley

as per the pic...
A: connects to the airflow meter.. the other side of the air flow meter is the Air Filter
B: connects to the Turbo and blow pipe on top of the rocker cover
C: on the underside of this is where the breather hole is.. but there is no pipe connecter.. and looks like no possible wat of connecting a pip as the hole is moulded into the rubber pipe
it is point A that doesnt seem to make a tight enough unbroken seal on the AFM

Hello,
have you checked the timing? Would be a good idea to run a diagnostic. It will run very noisy if the commencement of injection valve on the IP is not getting power or is not earthing back to the ECU. Check the three pin connector which has the fuel shut off solenoid and the two wires for the commencement of injection valve in the injection pump itself. Not sure what pump you have but this could be something to do with it.
