No diagnostics connection on setup, can I install one?

OK... things are getting a bit too complicated now...

Got a 1Z engine fitted with an ecu from a passat which is part No: 028 906 021 B

I need to run a diagnostics but I cannot find the Diagnostics connection pin which I have been told it's meant to be an OBDII

Bought the van with the conversion, so I assume that they didn't fit 1.

My question is... Could I connect one now, if so, how can I go about this?
What wires do I need to find and connect?

This was my last thread, got some pics on it...

You could do it as it's only 4 or 5 pins.
If it isn't fitted then they may have cut the wires off at the ECU connector.

You'll have to find a pin out diagram for the ECU connector and look for the wires.
You can buy the OBD connectors online.

Hello again,

I thought I'd already pointed out the K-line wire you need for the OBDII port. You can get an OBDII port easily enough by searching ebay for example. Look at the wiki link I sent you for the pin numbering of the OBDII port - K-line (the grey/white wire you found) is pin 7, pins 4 and 5 are earth and pin 16 is +12V. That should be all you need.

E D I T: vw part number for OBDII socket is 3A0972695 - you'll also need 4 junior timer female connectors (http://www.polevolt.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; do them) - I'm guessing you can find earth and +12V ok? You should be able to find main (109) relay - this provided power to the ECU, and you can get the 12V from there.

I was referring to the connectors a bit further down Ref: 3-8260 and Ref: 3-8270 - you connect these to the end of the wires and insert them into the back of the relevant pin slots of the OBDII connector - that's what I did and it worked with the connector I had.

Hello,

I really don't think you need a wiring diagram, all the information's been given already - below are the pictures of mine if that clarifies - it's 3 wires (4 if you want the extra ground). This is:

Earth - pin 4
K-line - pin 7 (that's the grey/white wire you found)
+12V - pin 16

You need to find earth and +12V from somewhere, which shouldn't be hard. Given every installation is a bit different it's hard to work out exactly where you should get earth and +12V from. This is as prescriptive as you can be. You can see the ends of the female connectors I mentioned inserted in the back of the OBD2 socket.
