If you leave the M6 at junction 44 (Hexham signpost for A7) At the roundabout take the second exit onto the A689 and continue for 1/4 mile to a large off road layby on the left. There are no facilities, but it's free.
There is at the next but one exit down (J42, The A6 turnoff) the Golden Fleece services with a nice cafe, loos, shop and fuel. There is an overnight truck park, but you have to pay.
I have used the layby (in a lorry, not my camper) to stop overnight and in the morning, carry on down the M6 to the Golden Fleece for breakfast. They are not too far apart.

If you're doing OK and you can last out a bit longer, you could do a lot worse than the truckstop at Tebay village (NOT the motorway services!) Fuel, shop, brilliant café and toilets. There is a small charge for overnight parking, but you get a discount ticket off the cost of a meal (and free use of the showers.)

If you wish to carry on further before you stop, continue on to junction 36. turn left 1st exit off the roundabout to the next roundabout and turn 1st left again. This is the A65. There is a park on the left where you may be able to stop if you are discrete. A bit further along, you will come to a Texaco garage on the right with some facilities. Before Texaco took it over, I sometimes parked up overnight in the lorry free of charge, but I have not overnighted there since it changed hands.

I hope you enjoy the journey. It's one I have made hundreds of times in various lorries and have always been delighted to make. I used to drive refrigerated wagons from various suppliers all over the country to the regional distribution centres dotted all along the M8 corridor (including the Asda ones at Livingstone!)
